Research integrity and ethics
All research projects require ethical approval before being carried out. The framework says research students obtain it through the Research Integrity Committee of their School of registration.
Your School has a procedure suited to its disciplines. Ask supervisors how to apply and what changes need further review; do not assume that a proposal review or supervisor consent is ethical approval.
Throughout your research
- Follow the University’s Code of Practice on Research Integrity.
- Consider ethics throughout the project and document it at progression points/reviews.
- Pay particular attention to human participants, personal data and human tissue where relevant.
- The DoS must ensure appropriate permissions for research partners.
- Discuss practical and wellbeing risks, including trauma-related risk and the need for a trauma-informed IPC.
The University Research Integrity Committee monitors policy consistency; it does not replace your School’s approval route.
