About this wiki
This is an unofficial student-friendly companion to Edinburgh Napier University’s research-degree guidance, adapted from an Obsidian knowledge base for this website. Its primary audience is enrolled students, including part-time, funded, visa-holding and specialist-route students.
Sources and authority
- Main source: Research Degrees Framework 2026-27.pdf, approved October 2026.
- Cross-check: Research Degree Regulations 2026-27.pdf, Section D, approved May 2026.
- Official forms and supporting web pages: Source register and Forms directory.
- Section A General Regulations and separate policies also apply. Their full content has not been incorporated into this companion.
Each substantive page cites its framework section and page. The local 2026/27 framework’s printed page numbers match its PDF page numbers. Check the official PDF for tables and exact wording.
Must, should, may, normally, ranges and maximums are deliberately distinguished. Checklists organise source requirements; additional practical suggestions are labelled as such. An explanation is not evidence that permission has been granted in an individual case.
Source differences
Some current official sources disagree. Relevant pages explain the practical uncertainty and link to Source differences and clarifications. This wiki does not invent a ruling or assume that a newer publication silently resolves a regulatory difference. Ask the Doctoral College Operations Team for written clarification where it affects you.
The 2026/27 framework says it supersedes previous editions and may change during the academic year. Some rules depend on your cohort, offer or funder. This companion is not a certified exhaustive change log.
Project status
