Submitting for examination

Submit your thesis and RD15 to the Doctoral College Operations Team—not directly to examiners. The official FAQ identifies doctoralcollegeoffice@napier.ac.uk as the submission contact.

What to send

  • Thesis PDF meeting requirements.
  • Completed, authorised Candidate’s Declaration form RD15 from Forms directory.
  • Any additional examination materials, using arrangements agreed for large/physical items and listing them in the thesis contents.

RD15 confirms the version to be examined and records whether one supervisor may observe your viva. The internal thesis declaration is separate.

When

Ordinarily from one month before the standard registration end, and before your agreed maximum end. PhD by Published Works has its own three-to-twelve-month window. See Early or late submission for earlier/late cases.

Allow at least eight weeks before the viva, calculated from the later of thesis submission and RD12 approval, excluding holiday periods. See Preparing for submission.

What follows

If the exam team is approved, the Operations Team sends the thesis and formal appointments, normally within seven days but potentially longer in busy periods. If not, it prompts the DoS to arrange RD12 first.

You cannot amend the thesis or withdraw it for revision while examination is ongoing. You must not contact appointed examiners about the thesis. The formal submission channel protects version control and examination independence.

Keep supervision and RD6 going after submission. The later repository deposit with RD20 is a separate step.
