Title page and declaration
Your thesis needs an internal title page and a declaration. RD15 is a separate submission form and does not replace the declaration inside the thesis.
Title page
Include full thesis title, your full name, month/year of submission and the appropriate statement:
A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Edinburgh Napier University, for the award of [award name]
Use the applicable award name: Doctor of Philosophy, Professional Doctorate, Doctor of Business Administration, Master of Laws by Research, or Master by Research. The bracketed placeholder here is an editing aid, not text to leave in a submitted thesis. Published Works candidates should confirm any route-specific title-page wording with the School.
For the final thesis, §6.8 says to use the date the final amended version was submitted for consideration by examiners, not automatically the graduation or repository-upload date. Confirm treatment if no amendments were required.
Examples appear on PDF pp. 72–73. They illustrate layout, not an additional universal font/cover design rule.
Declaration contents
The declaration must state:
- The work has not wholly or partly been submitted for another degree/qualification.
- Relevant associated published material, where applicable.
- That the thesis is your own independent work; where research is collaborative, explain your individual contribution and the extent of collaboration.
Agree wording appropriate to your circumstances with supervisors; do not sign a statement inconsistent with your actual research or published-work route.
