Changing school
An internal School transfer is narrowly restricted; it is not a routine way to change research direction. Your School should be the one in which your DoS is based.
The framework’s exception is a cross-University project where the DoS becomes permanently unavailable, there is no suitable replacement in the original School, and a supervisor in another School takes over as DoS. The research must not change significantly.
For a significant change of research direction requiring a different School, the framework instead advises withdrawal and a new application. Discuss the implications and alternatives before taking that step.
Paperwork
- Discuss and record the internal transfer at a progress-review meeting, additional if necessary.
- Use RD6-B for the two Schools to authorise responsibilities for progress, wellbeing and resources.
- Submit RD11 for the DoS change.
- An internal transfer does not itself change fees or registration end dates.
Visa holders must consult Visa and International Support before approval. RD6-B is listed in the framework but not linked on the current public forms page; request it from Contacts.
