Supervision agreement
Complete a supervision agreement with your supervisors within your first month. Discuss it at every RD6 and update it as necessary.
What to agree
- Frequency and format of meetings, including whole-team meetings.
- Communication between meetings and arrangements for absences.
- Research milestones and study arrangements.
- How written work is submitted and the agreed timetable for constructive feedback.
- Adjustments and particular approaches to support your work.
The University’s research-degree questions page also describes using the agreement to discuss authorship on publications emerging from your research.
Keep it useful
Bring it to your RD6 reflective review. Record changes rather than assuming everyone’s expectations are still aligned. If no updated agreement is submitted to the School RDC, the framework assumes the previous one remains current.
The agreement does not replace regular supervision, review paperwork or formal approval for changes to registration.
