Tuition fees and sponsorship
Fees are normally charged annually at the prevailing rate throughout standard registration. Use My Napier Money and Finance for your actual charges and payment arrangements.
What to check
- Fees are due at the start of the year unless instalments have been arranged. After four weeks without payment or arrangement, the framework treats the student as in debt.
- The University does not send tuition invoices to students by post or email; check the official payment pages/account process.
- A deposit may be required above a fee threshold. The 2026/27 framework does not give a deposit amount; do not reuse the 2024/25 figures printed in the older edition.
- If the University pays only part of your fees, you pay the balance.
- An external sponsor must give Finance written confirmation each year, including billing address; otherwise you may be charged directly.
- New or changed sponsorship must be requested in writing and authorised by the relevant School signatory.
How changes affect fees
| Situation | Framework treatment |
|---|---|
| Grace period | Full annual grace-period fee regardless of how much is used; normally student-funded |
| Extension to maximum registration | Another writing-up fee |
| Fail Resubmit after using 12 months’ grace | Additional grace-period fee |
| Study break | Total fees unchanged; due dates may be adjusted |
| Full-time/part-time change | Finance recalculates annual charges |
| Higher target degree | Greater total fees |
| Lower target degree | No refund of fees already charged |
| Successful appeal granting more registration time | No additional fee |
| Early submission | No fee reduction |
DBA/Prof. Doc fees are cohort-set: the framework describes three years’ full fees plus a grace-period year if required. PhD by Published Works is charged one full-time-rate year even though registration is part-time and may end earlier.
If paying is becoming difficult, use Financial difficulty and debt sanctions promptly. Do not assume an approved study change also confirms a funding arrangement.
