Extending a corrections deadline
If extenuating circumstances affect post-examination amendments, discuss an RD18 application with your DoS before your deadline. This is not an RD10 registration-extension application.
Apply
- Explain the impact to your DoS and obtain their support.
- Submit a written application on RD18 to the School RDC.
- Include the reason and appropriate evidence/support. Personal or medical detail can be brief if the DoS confirms knowledge of the circumstances and need.
- The School considers the case in consultation with the Exam Panel Chair.
- The Operations Team must be informed and sends you formal confirmation.
The maximum additional time at this stage is six months. If serious circumstances continue and a further extension is needed, the application goes to the Research Degrees Examination Board, otherwise following the same procedure.
Use the deadline in your formal outcome/extension letter. If an amended thesis is late without approved extra time, it is not automatically sent for examination: the Board considers the case and requires an explanation of both the delay and why an earlier extension application was not possible, plus a DoS statement.
