Training and development
Your development includes research expertise, wider professional skills and preparation for your career. Discuss these at progress reviews, not just thesis outputs.
Use the Vitae Online Researcher Development planner, provided to research students, with your supervisors to plan and record development. Relevant opportunities include research methods, academic writing, presentations and career skills.
Training involves the Researcher Development Team, academics, DLTE, Academic Skills, English for Academic Purposes and Library Services. Check current Doctoral College/Moodle announcements and ask your School administrator via Contacts for the timetable.
Bring a reflection on learning, skills gaps, training and next steps to RD6 reflective review.
Teaching
The initial four-hour New to Teaching in Higher Education course is mandatory before teaching work and paid at Demonstrator rate under the Student Experience Contract. Additional voluntary workshops and ENRoute support are available. See Teaching and the Student Experience Contract; Graduate Training Assistants have additional arrangements.
